I’m Richard Lloyd Jones, and this is Thinking with Somebody Else’s Head.
It was part of the psychic apparatus defined in Freud‘s Structural Model of the Psyche. Its role was to mediate between the desires of our uncoordinated instinctual tendencies – the ID – and our critical moralizing part called the Super-Ego.
For Freud, our Ego – caught between these two forces, has a heck of a time maintaining equilibrium. It often loses, as we all know when we do something we know we shouldn’t but can’t help, and then have to live with the consequences.
But Keppe has re-defined this battle by proposing that our neurosis comes, not from the fight between our primitive instincts and our censoring personal and social Super-Ego, but from our inverted desires against our good, beautiful and true essence. A dilemma recognized by St. Paul when he lamented, “Why do I do the things I don’t want and fail to do the things I want?”
A question perhaps all of us have asked in different ways. Keppe’s work in this area is essential for all, but lamentably not well divulged. Let’s go some ways towards correcting that.

The inverted self or “anti me” is a dilemma of humans since Eden. It started when Adam and Eve invited Satan into their lives by eating from the tree of knowledge. Their knowledge, of course was coming from Him and thus evil was exposed. Man was suppose to only know good because he was made in the image and likeness of his Maker. Man’s relation to his Maker kept him alive. When he started to relate to evil he died. The real essence of evil is GUILT which is exposed when it is confronted with good. In this sense Satan is the epiphany of guilt. His comparison to God is the reason for his eternal guilt. He believes the lie that he is NOT LIKE GOD. He therefore confronted Eve in believing the same lie, which of course was enhanced by knowledge(the fruit she ate from the forbidden tree). It is obvious therefore that man needed a rebirth if he was ever to live again. His body, contaminated by evil(sickness and death) and his soul destroyed by guilt are his stumbling blocks. Because He is LOVE man’s Maker provided the complete restoration for man. He sent His Son to proof that man is indeed like God and that he is IN God and can know Him intimately as a father. Jesus Chist, the Son of God is the anointed of God who took all the contamination of man onto His own body and allowed that body to be destroyed by death. He also took His soul(blood) and presented it to God as an eternal offer before God as a testimony of man’s eternal innocence before Him. In this way he took away the keys of death from Satan and stripped him of all his authority over man. Jesus then rose from the dead as the second(rebirthed) Adam without death and guilt and became a life giving spirit. He finally became what Adam should have became had he eaten from the tree of life. TODAY Christ offers this life to all of mankind. When man accepts it(faith) his eyes opens once again to see God now in truth as his Father and he receives the same spirit who cries with him “Abba Father”. Praise God He has dealt with the inverted self. He has given me a new self, the Holy Spirit and I am one with Him. 1John 5:20.
